Self -criticism

Some of you may have seen a prior post that listed some of the medications I used to take for several health issues. I did not understand that they were making all my health problems worse and causing more. There were a lot of them, and included numerous diabetes medications, steroids, antibiotics, pain medications, muscle relaxers, antidepressants, anti-anxiety medication, allergy medication, inhalers, stomach meds, etc. I also used to use alcohol, cigarettes, and other drugs.

Instead of throwing parties and yelling from the rooftop about all the medications and health problems I have left behind, I was hiding behind the fact that I still use insulin. I continue to use about 1/3 of the insulin I used to take. When I was taking more, I was also taking other diabetes drugs with it.

I abused my body for about 43+ years before I started learning and understanding how to get healthy. So, it makes a lot of sense that it is taking some time and more layers of changes. All of the medications exacerbated diabetes and may have interfered with my metabolic functions. I also have not consistently kept the fat in my diet to 10% of my daily calories. Diabetes is a problem with fat, not sugar. (I will explain more about this in another post).

I turned to food all of my life for comfort, safety, love, etc. The trauma and wounding I experienced has been extensive. For as long as I can remember, I ate my way through it. Numbing out and repressing emotions causes disease. While I have made huge strides in this area, I still need continued work. It has been quite a journey of working on healing core wounds to get closer to turning that around, and I still have a way to go in all areas, but man have I come a long way from where I started.

While working on becoming a certified Health & Wellness coach I learned all of the information to change my own life and guide others who want to heal and thrive. I have changed so much, and it is ok that I still have some work to do in all areas of my own healing. Follow me to learn more about the changes I made and continue to make. Better yet, join me on my journey to optimal health!
